Iorfa shows Eagles way to AFCON 2013 trophy

Former international and Lobi Stars Technical Adviser, Mr. Dominic Iorfa Mtem has said the Super Eagles stand a good chance of winning their third AFCON title when they take on the Stallions of Burkina Faso today in South Africa, but they must retain the attitude that gave them victories over Cote d’Ivoire and Mali.

Speaking to Sunday Trust yesterday, the ex-Eagle said it was change in attitude that propelled the Eagles to resounding victories over the Elephants of Cote’d’ivoire and the Eagles of mali and to bring home the trophy, they must not underrate the Burkinables this evening.

He said before now, less than 1million out of the 160 million Nigerians gave the Eagles any chance of winning the 2013 AFCON but the moment the players stepped up their game and defeated Cote d’ivoire and Mali convincingly, they won over the entire population.

Iorfa said nobody should make the mistake of thinking that Nigerians are fair weather fans because there is nobody who will gladly associate himself with failure when there is room for excellence.

His words “I can say that after their first two matches in the tournament, not up to 1 million out of 160 million Nigerians were ready to support the team. However, when the players embraced new character and discipline to beat Cote d’Ivoire and Mali, they won over Nigerians.

“The people are now happy with the team and even if the Eagles fail to win the trophy, they will still enjoy the support of Nigerians. I am saying this because final matches are always unpredictable. It’s like a game of luck and anything can happen.

“However, I am confident that the Eagles will beat Burkina Faso. What they need to do is to keep the new found character and discipline. When they were considered to be underdogs against Cote d’Ivoire, they shocked everybody. Against Burkina Faso, they are the top dogs and so they must be careful”.

Iorfa also expressed happiness with the performance of the Nigeria Premier League stars who are on the verge of making history with the Super Eagles in South Africa.

“The performance of the NPL players in the Super Eagles is a pointer to the fact that the domestic league can be the major supplier of players for the senior national team. I want to say that there are so many Godfrey Oboabonas, Sunday Mbas and Ejikes in the NPL”, he stated.
