Fire kills six in Katsina

Siix children have been confirmed dead following a fire outbreak in Dagoni village of Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State. The fire, Sunday Trust gathered also destroyed grains worth thousands of naira.

An eyewitness, Malam Danjuma Mohammadu, uncle to one of the deceased children told Sunday Trust that the incident occurred on Friday at about 4.30pm.

He said the fire broke out from a granary which consumed the children and large quantities of grains.

According to the eyewitness, the children whose ages ranged between six and nine were suspected to have ignited the fire with matches while trying to catch a mouse.

It was gathered that the fire engulfed the granary reducing it to ashes, also charred the children to death instantly.

It was also observed that the entire village was thrown into confusion following the incident, especially as it was the first time it witnessed such incident in the village.

The acting chairman of Kaita local government council, Alhaji Sada Abdullahi, had visited the village to condole the families of the deceased where he prayed for the repose of their souls and for their families the fortitude to bear the losses.

Abdullahi who donated the sum of N20,000 to each of the bereaved families, also urged them to consider the incident as an act of God.

It will be recalled that fire outbreak had on 16th November last year killed a mother and her six daughters at Rafukka quarters in Katsina metropolis.
